My Favorite Summer Smoothie

I have been a smoothie queen these days. Cold, refreshing, creamy....and it helps me get my skim milk and fruit in!

Lately, I have been experimenting with a smoothie recipe almost every single day and I just wanted to share my favorite as it is super simple and really delicious and satisfying.

My secret these days: fresh frozen fruit and vanilla syrup (like what they use in a coffee shop, you can get regular or sugar-free).

When my fresh fruit is getting really ripe, I simply cut it up (or peel for a banana) and place it in a Ziploc bag and throw it in the freezer.   Anything works: bananas, peaches, nectarines, raspberries, and strawberries are my favorites lately, but that's just me!

Here is the best recipe ever:

  • 1 cup skim milk
  • 1 frozen peach or nectarine (cut before freezing)
  • 1 frozen banana (peel and cut before freezing)
  • 5 frozen strawberries (cut before freezing)
  • 4 Ice Cubs

Directions:

1.  Dump it all in the blender.

2.  Blend it on high until ice is blended.

3.  Blend on low for 30 seconds after ice is blended to help the smoothie get nice and thick.

4.  Enjoy!  If the smoothie is a bit too thick for you, just ask a splash more milk.

Hope you love it!

  1. Thanks for the recipe, R&F!!! So funny you should put this on because I have been experimenting with smoothies this week since an extra 6 lbs showed up on my scale since I got back from my cruise! It was either that or buy a new scale.

    1. Hahahahaha! I find the smoothies really work to give me something that takes a long time for me to eat (my mouth is then occupied, so Cheetos do not fall into it), gets my fruit and milk in, and gives me energy. I am doing a smoothie and ice coffee for breakfast and then sometimes a smoothie before bed and it is really helping me. Since, I do eat a TON of fruit on WW, I usually log 5 points for fruit for the day and that helps me make better choices and hopefully still lose as I can take down 5-10 servings of fruit a day when it comes to the smoothies and calories are calories (SOB!). The syrup really makes it!!!!

  2. I would definitely love this smoothie recipe you shared with us! Who would say no to a skim milk and fruits combination, right? This is the great thing about smoothies – you can toss your favorite fruits into the blender, add some sweetener of your choice, and voila! You have for yourself your own smoothie recipe! What's more, you can even save up when you buy your fruits and veggies in bulk. You would just have to store them properly in the freezer. Good luck coming up with more smoothie recipes!
